As always, I am in total agreement with your identification of the problem. But I would take it back to colonial times. Indentured servants initially had life expectancies of 7-10 years which coincidentally afforded most who held their indentures freedom from fulfilling on their contracts. This life expectancy was very similar to those of a slave. This began an association between the indentured individuals and enslaved individuals. The elite white people who held these indentures and enslaved individuals feared what would happen if these two groups began to form an alliance. By law and by action these elite white people improved the conditions of indentured people which also extended their life expectancies and established the "at least I'm not a slave" feeling of superiority which continues to this day in some members of the white race. The second important effort was the creation of the myth that Black people were selected by God to be enslaved through a corruption of the story of Noah and his son Shem. Which continues to this day as a feeling of "Black people are different and not to be trusted."
White women were trained to never, to the extent possible, expose their skin to the sun to avoid tanning. Queen Elizabeth I used lead based white makeup to be seen as more beautiful. A white woman's skin which was describe as translucent, prominently showing veins, was considered more desirable. White women, although not placed on the slave block, were used as currency to improve the lot of their father's family and or the lot of their husband's while losing access to whatever property they might have had. After they were married, their children were the property of their husband and if the husband decided that the wife was unworthy he could put her aside and not allow her access to her children. If her husband died, depending on the care he took with respect to her, the white woman could become homeless and penniless. Such were the results of the inheritance of the sins of Eve. White women were subordinate to their fathers and husbands in all things to the extent that they were required to be silent with respect to the dominion of their fathers and husbands. Men were taught that if a white woman was insubordinate, they were allowed to exert whatever punishment they thought appropriate whether psychological or physical. A white woman, not under the protection of her father or her husband, were acceptable sexual prey. An unmarried white woman with child, who was not a widow, was unemployable and socially unacceptable.
Black women had it worst in every way. Those that survived enslavement learned skills that most white women still have not. Until very recently, white women were heavily dependent on their association with a man. That isn't an excuse, but it is a cultural reality. When the terrible part was spoken out loud before the 2024 election, "white women vote the same way as their husbands" a closely held secret was exposed. To vote in a way different than your husband was described on TV as infidelity. They could no longer hide behind the curtain of the voting booth and men would be looking at percentages to see if their women betrayed them and the need to enact the threat of repercussions.
Until women of all colors start talking plainly to each other and not cosplaying behind their culture, we will not be the coalition we should be. This post comes from the heart and I hope the language isn't tone deaf.
Patriarchy depends on women not coming together so it can survive that’s why they keep the women fighting against each other
Interesting how black women have learned to group together for survival and moving forward together while white women under the patriarchy will undermine other white women all to uphold the patriarchy
