I saw this movie during late Covid in the relative peace and calm of the Biden administration . This scene has stuck with me because it seemed so unbelievable, until now.

It seems possible now because we see federal troops being deployed to major cities and masked men and women kidnapping people off the streets, and from their homes or jobs…. all the while, we are being flanked, but many don’t see it.

The trust, based on the social contract we have enjoyed with the government, has been destroyed and many people don’t seem to get THAT. If we are up to date with the gutting of government departments and agencies and the military buildup of ICE, it is easy to see the danger of being outflanked. Take an egg, drain out the center, and the shell easily cracks; there is no resistance at all. Our government has been hallowed out. We resisters encircle the hallow center while government troops, including the newly fortified ICE, fold around us. I find it hard to sleep.

Wow, I watched this film twice because it's so compelling. I see this scene even more deeply. being flanked is absolutely what the administration is doing, masked unidentified men picking people up in stores, taking security away from Kamala Harris, banning books.......

The other scene in this film is of the father who wants to keep the rituals but says there's no one left to teach them. This film is worth watching more than once. and remember indigenous women go missing and it seems few care. I wish Alaska Daily would come back.
